How to earn more revenue from your sports facilities

Are you maximising the revenue from your sports facilities? Are your sports facilities being fully utilised all year round?

A lot of sports facilities sit idle during the day or over the summer. The common perception in the industry is that there is no market for them during these periods.

According to a survey conducted by YouGov in 2017, 17% of 2,000 respondents cited the cost of playing sport as being the main thing stopping them from participating, and 12% claimed a lack of local facilities to be the reason.

In 2019-20, it is estimated that 19.2% of the industry’s £6.2bn revenue will be generated through the leasing of facilities to the general public.

Without online booking, you can’t maximise your revenue.

If you are not maximising your revenue, these are generally the two main reasons:

  1. People don’t realise they can book your facilities.

  2. The process for booking is too long or too complicated.

In a Sport England survey of more than 1,800 people regarding their online habits. Only 34% said it was straightforward to book sporting activities. The participants overwhelmingly concluded it was far easier to order food online than make a sports booking.

Maybe you’re really busy in Winter but quieter during the Summer months and tend to think there’s no market at that time...but how can you know if no one’s able to see your facilities? If people can’t see them and don’t know you’re open for bookings, you can’t know if there’s an appetite out there.

You need to promote your sports facilities online and through your social media. By having your online calendar easily accessible it makes it simple for customers to making bookings 24/7 all year round.
